Full Height and French Door Shutters for new home in Hilton Valley
We recently installed a number of shutters for a young couple moving to a new development by St Modwens, Hilton Valley, which is approximately six miles south west of Derby city centre.
The couple first made contact back in September asking if we could supply a quotation for some interior wooden shutters for their new home. As their home was still in the building process, with no show home of their style on site, we called into the developer’s sales office to review the technical drawings. From these we were able to supply a rough estimate for costs of shutters for the new home.
We then arranged to meet the couple at Stoke-On-Trent, as St Modwens had a development over there with the same house style being built at Hilton Valley. This step helped us to gather some information on what was required, and also helped them visualise wooden shutters within their new home. We then kept in touch over the weeks following, until we could access their new home and conduct a more detailed survey.
Some of the unique selling points of St Modwens are tall ceilings and large windows, for which interior wooden shutters are the perfect finish. We had to visualise their furniture in each of the rooms ensuring what we had discussed was the correct option.
The couple wanted to ensure the shutters didn’t protrude too much within each room – lounge, master bedroom and dining room (French doors), so we agreed a fold within each window was the perfect solution.
In terms of the material, they settled on the Cuba entry-level hardwood for the lounge, and chose the MDF Antigua range for the French doors.
The couple were keen to be able to close the lower section of the shutters, while keeping the top open, hence the importance of adding a mid-rail and matching the current alignment of their uPVC windows. This choice allowed for an extra bit of privacy should this be required.
We helped the couple opt for all the shutters on the tracked French door to fold to the left as you looked from within the home, as this would have the least impact in accessing the rear garden.
Window and Patio Door shutters based on the customers’ design choices and requirements
Louvre size was another factor to consider, and with having large windows, and one being in a bedroom, we helped the couple settle on the 63mm louvre, providing a nice balance of privacy and light.
Importantly they wanted the louvres to match from the kerb side as we would be installing to both front windows (as shown in the image).
The brushed nickel plated hardware, complimented their existing hardware they had chosen for their new home.
We then processed their order, and after several weeks, we carried out the installation with the finished look as you can see from the images.
This is what the customer had to say:
